The Victorian House

We live in a Victorian house that is very traditionally appointed so we absolutely loved being able to enjoy the vibes of the Victorian House. It was a short walk from the station and a short walk to the historic centre which we managed easily with our toddler without any need for a buggy or stroller. Location can’t be beat - it was a quiet road so no noise really from traffic or groups going out on the town. The amenities were ideal. Two bedrooms with very comfortable and ample bedding/pillows, a spacious upstairs bathroom with walk-in shower and separate clawfoot bath, good blackout blinds and curtains for summer months if you are sensitive to light. Downstairs had a loo, very comfy living room with large tv, great dining room for meals, and a well-stocked kitchen with pretty much everything we could need. We stayed a full week so had several meals in the house and did some of our own cooking, and never found anything lacking. I did worry slightly about some of the crockery (we have some of the same set) as some had the nice gold trim on it which would get worn away with repeated trips in the dishwasher so we made sure to either use the crockery that didn’t have that or we hand-washed any that might not cope well with the dishwasher. We also did a load of laundry with no issue and enjoyed the use of the dryer which we don’t have at home. Our toddler loved the blocks and we spent lots of down time building houses, castles, and ships in the living room with them. Everything was clean, easy to use, and comfortable. We also checked out some of the recommended places in the welcome binder. 10/10 would recommend and if we came back to York we would definitely stay here over anywhere else (we have been a couple of times for long weekends and stayed elsewhere).

We loved staying in the Victorian York. The house is full of character - lots of books and really cosy. Great location - 10 minute walk into York and added bonus of parking pass! Home was really clean and really quiet - we didn't hear the neighbours at all. TV was a smart TV which was handy. Kitchen had all appliances needed but must admit, other than breakfast we didn't cook in it. We have stayed in a lot of rentals in York as we frequently visit and this has been our favourite so far! Would definitely recommend and would stay again!

We loved staying in the Victorian House. The location is perfect. Quiet but very close to the centre. Beautiful decor and so homely. Lovely to enjoy the garden in the morning sunshine.

We like to stay here as it’s a gorgeous little house and the location is great (a quiet cluster of streets in the city centre). Works for either train or car travel. Being surrounded by all the books makes us feel very peaceful!

What a fantastic place! Cosy and full of character and in a super location just perfect for exploring the historical city of York. The booking process was easy and all of our questions answered very promptly. Philip was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay even updating the stair gate. The house was fully equipped with everything you need for a weekend away. My husband was taking part in the Yorkshire marathon and the location of the house was perfect for this too. The parking permit ensured we could park outside the house and if you have a second car, as we did, then there is a car park on Nunnery Lane a two minute walk away. We would definitely recommend and if visiting York again would stay here again.

We had a lovely time the house was like going back in time which we loved. The kitchen was stocked with all the essentials which was nice. The area was nice and quite close to river and city centre, I would definitely recommend a stay in the Victorian house and we will definitely stay again.

Lovely Victorian house in the perfect location for visiting York. We didn't use the car for the whole of our stay - it sat happily outside the property. The house was clean, comfortable and full of books and china - I would worry if there were small children in the party but perfect for older families.

Great location just inside city walls with 5 minutes walk to local shoos and 10 minutes walk to city centre. Quiet and easy parking. Comfortable and decor like stepping back in time (in a good way) with thousands of books adirning the walls. Everything you could need in kitchen and bathroom. If being picky, tv a little small by today's standards and limited space to hang smart clothes. A welcome pack detailing how to use facilities ans getting on wifi would be useful but easy enough to work things out. Perfect for a city break.

We had a lovely stay in this cosy terraced house, brimming with interesting features. The house is located on a quiet street, with parking, next to the city walls and with easy access on foot to the station and all of York’s attractions. We particularly liked the excellent large bathroom with a separate bath and shower and there is a well equipped, although compact, kitchen with good cooking, washing and laundry facilities.
