Things to do in Filey

The coastal resort of Filey is nestled on the east coast of North Yorkshire between Scarborough and Bridlington. Laden with history and character, this seaside town is popular with visitors throughout the year. Renowned for its beautiful beaches and gentle pace of life, Filey is a perfect for a relaxing seaside break.

Beautiful Beaches

Filey is home to five miles of beautiful sandy beach making it the ideal place for a day with the family building sand castles and paddling in the sea, or even a long relaxing stroll to take in the seascape.

Just a mile from Filey itself is Filey Brigg, a long narrow peninsula. Although it is rather rocky under-foot, the rock pools provide an opportunity for exploring and adventuring - great for keeping children entertained! 

Around a half hour drive from Filey is Flamborough Head, a stretch of white chalk cliffs and classified as a Special Conservation Area. Here you can enjoy birdwatching, hiking or even getting out on the water! There are also two ancient lighthouses to explore -  don’t forget your camera!

There a lots of places to visit nearby with the popular seaside towns of Scarborough and Bridlington both within an easy drive.

For nature lovers, Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a freshwater marsh of around six hectares, is worth a visit. It's home to lots of plants and wildlife and the boardwalk and pond-dipping platform allows visitors to try and spot water voles, and watch dragonflies circle the surface of the marsh.

Learn about the art of distillery at the nearby Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery in Hunmanby, experts will show you the ropes and talk you through the process, as well as being able to taste some malt yourself.
