The bathroom with has a beautiful walk in shower, and again has been finished to a very high standard.

A cosy and quirky cottage

Walmgate cottage is an excellent base for a short trip to York. It is a 10 minute walk from the centre of the city, which means it is pretty quiet. The cottage was warm and cosy, and everything was clean. If you are unsteady on your feet, be advised be that the upstairs floors are a little bit uneven due to the age of the property, but that was not an issue for us. The facilities were good, and although we did not cook for ourselves, the kitchen seemed to have a good level of equipment. We enjoyed having the extra space and lounge, kitchen etc that we would not have got if we had booked a hotel room.

This is my second stay at the Walmgate property, but our first in the cottage in the back garden. The property ha supper location, and a charming old building with lots of personality and a wonderful atmosphere. Closely located to several supermarkets for convenient food shopping.

Could not have a better location everything was just what we needed quirky accommodation we all enjoyed fantastic shower and comfy beds could not fault it only tricky thing was parking we arrived on a Friday night and took us a little while to find the best place to park with the permit supplied but we got there. Thanks guys

On entering this property, we found it to be clean and comfortable. This property however has markedly sloping floors which affect the stairway and the upper level. Although my friend and I are active 70year olds, we found this to be a problem , and we were certainly at risk of losing our balance….or even falling. We were surprised that this issue had not been highlighted on booking. The doors upstairs tend to swing unexpectedly and because they are not straight, they are heavy. This apartment is not really suitable for older people, young children, or anyone with mobility issues. We did however enjoy the central location of this property.

Everything was so clean! Lovely welcome package with tea bags, coffee etc. Location was perfect, 15 minute walk to train station, 5 minutes to Shambles and Minster. Beds were comfortable and it was brilliant to have a smart tv, really felt like home from home. Cottage is on a slant but you get used to it after a while. Will definitely recommend and stay again!

Walmgate cottage was perfect for us (family of 4) right in the centre of York, walking distance to all the attractions and shops and restaurants on the doorstep. Once the car was parked we didn't need it again and the parking permit provided saves ££s. Walmgate cottage was everything we wanted. Clean, quirky, cosy, beautiful and everything we needed. Stays York were amazing - we booked Christmas day, they confirmed booking on boxing day and we arrived a day later. Thank you. And the welcome goody bag was the best we have had at any holiday cottage ever.

Great location, within walking distance of everything the City of York offers. We loved the fact that we parked the car up and were able to enjoy walking everywhere, taking in the history. Even though it was centrally located, we had access to a lovely courtyard garden if we just wanted to sit and relax after our day out and about.

A delightful cottage on the Floss river where we would watch a family is Swans glide by daily .Truely idillic the cottage had everything we needed. The cleaners did and amazing weekly clean. The space was large and quiet but right in the middle of all the activity. Stays management we’re very responsive to everything we required. We totally recommend .

Comfortable stay in central York.<br /> Nicely furnished cottage, very central for all York attractions. The food hamper was a nice surprise. The place was very clean and felt Covid safe. The place is quite quirky, all the walls and floors are squint, but this added to the charm of this old building.

Overally very pleased. The property definitely has character and quirky features but we liked it. Rooms were clean and decor nice too. Couldnt really find fault other than to say parking can be a problem. Inaumed for George street as suggested which was full so had to drive around. Took me about 20 mins of searching the council website to find parking allocated to r18 permit - would be useful to include this i feel in your welcome pack.

Fantastic family stay! Loved the location of this property as it was bang central to all the shops, restaurants & sites in York . The property was very clean , cosy & comfortable which made for a fantastic stay ! I would definitely book again & almost certainly will in the future.

I stayed in the cottage for three months and I was very sad to leave. It's very comfortable, private and secure. The team at stays york were really nice to communicate with. Always quick to reply to emails and answer questions. Would definitely recommend this cottage and this company if looking for a short term rental property. It's right In the centre of York with everything needed on the doorstep

Beautiful cottage - shame about the smashed window!

This is a beautiful cottage in a great location but unfortunately the beginning of our stay was spoiled by arriving to a smashed window. After paying over £200 per night for our stay, we certainly weren't expecting this. This issue was made worse by the fact that we weren't told the truth by the agent when I called to report the problem. I was firstly told thank you for reporting the problem, then told it was too late in the day to fix it. When I queried why the cleaner hadn't reported it earlier, I was then told they had only been aware of the problem for 2 days!! In no way is it acceptable to have guests arriving into a property with a window smashed through which has been known about for 2 days!! The excuse used was that the glass needed measured which I imagine would have taken 5 minutes? This issue was eventually partially solved after I asked to speak to a manager and mentioned complaints and refunds. However we then ended up in a property with a boarded up window for the duration of our stay. It is a real shame we encountered this issue as the property was otherwise lovely, but this extremely stressful start to our holiday means I won't be booking through York Stays again.

Following on from your review we would like to take this opportunity to reply to the issue that you have raised. We are really very sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the service that you have received whilst staying at the property. As you have said the window panel was broken in the bottom right hand corner, it is a small panel, part of a number making up the window. The office had been informed within the last 48 hours of the issue, however given the current level of bookings being experienced across York we were struggling to get someone out to the property. You had called our office on the afternoon of your arrival and we managed to arrange for someone to visit the property who placed a board over the panel area, this was done on the same day. The board only covered the panel that was damaged and not the entire window. Due to the age of the property and the fact that it is a small panel, the glass has to be made and we are currently still awaiting delivery. It is unfortunate that due to the current situation things are taking more time than they normally would and we are trying our very best in what are still proving to be very difficult times. It is very unfortunate that this experience tainted your overall impression of Stays York and we are very sorry to hear that you will not be using us again as we would value the opportunity of demonstrating the strong customer service levels that pride ourselves on.

Wonderful property, fantastic position,close to everything. Quiet and peaceful in the centre of the city. Loved the geese swimming by in the river Foss below the window.

Very good location. Extremely clean. Really good interior design. Car parking not easy at least a 5 minute walk to the parking zone difficult to find in the dark. Bedroom windows won’t open so rooms stuffy. Most of the window blinds broken. Chair in the bedroom broke when I sat on it I went flying! Washing machine didn’t work, shower only worked ( just) after I reported it! No access to fuse box or internet modem I had a power cut when I was there.

Walmgate is a lovely home, part of a listed building right in the centre of York. Unfortunately the position does mean that parking straight outside the property isn't possible, but it is a very short distance away to park your car. During your stay as soon as we were informed about the problems the owner came out to the property to check the matters raised. We always strive to achieve the very best standards for our guests and try to rectify any problems as soon as they arise. Feedback is important to us and we have taken note of the areas that you have highlighted.

What an amazing place to stay, beautiful, very old building with lots of history. Centrally located , yet quiet and a stones throw from the centre of York. Lovely touch with a hamper of goodies too. Excellent communication, perfect stay. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.. The house is very quirky and not a flat floor to be had, but this adds to the beautiful charm. Thank you so much. We will definitely come back and stay.

It is has a modern interior with all ammentities. As others have stated it is definitely quirky and is on quite a lean with floors and walls out of level .
