Welcome to The Dukes Townhouse. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of York City Centre, which is only a 5 minute's walk away, sat in a leafy street in York, this beautiful Victorian Townhouse has recently been renovated into 5 fabulous 1 bedroom apartments. All have access to unlimited super-fast WiFi and have been fully furnished with your comfort and enjoyment in mind.
On entering through the front entrance you are immediately drawn in via the beautiful hallway, with both original York stone floors and staircase. This lovely one bedroom Retreat is the perfect hideaway. Descending down the spotlit, original York Stone staircase, you are immediately cocooned in this beautiful space. There is a master bedroom, complete with a king-size bed to snuggle down into, a big en suite complete with double sink, walk in shower, hanging space and toilet. There are french doors leading out from the bedroom into a small courtyard. Complete with a bistro table and chairs this is perfect for sitting and having your morning coffee.
Moving on to the open plan living area, you have a fully fitted kitchen with everything that you will need to prepare a holiday breakfast or romantic meal. There is a lovely dining table by the window at which you can sit and enjoy your meal. When you are ready to snuggle down and watch a film, the sofas are perfect for your evening's entertainment.
For that added touch of luxury, tucked away behind double doors is a large double ended bath - set the lights on low, fill the bath full of bubbles, pour yourself a glass of something lovely and relax! A little indulgence whilst you are on your break in York, that will leave you both refreshed and ready to go.

Clean comfy and close to everything
We stayed two nights in York. The apartment was wonderfully located, easy walk from the train and walk to town. The apartment was spotless with great amenities, we really appreciated the bath. The mattress and pillows were so comfy! Wonderful place to stay!!
Great stay in York
We had a lovely stay at The Retreat for a long weekend in December. The apartment is beautifully decorated, with all the amenities you need and is in a perfect location for exploring York. A few things couldve improved our stay: - footsteps from the apartment above are very audible and at times we could also hear the people in the apartment above talking. Better soundproofing (carpets, thicker rugs) might help. - there is no parking and parking at Marygate is very expensive (£25 a day in December). For this reason, if we stayed again Id weigh up the cost of booking one of the middle two apartments in the building as they had use of a parking space included. - there was no way to control the heating. While the guest booklet said you could change the temperature on the thermostats, they were all locked so this wasnt possible. The radiator and underfloor heating in the bathroom didnt come on at all over the weekend, which made it quite chilly!
A perfect weekend away
Our return to Dukes Townhouse, this time in The Retreat, was as expected, exceptional. The location is perfect, just steps away from the heart of York and the iconic Shambles, making it incredibly easy to explore the city the moment you step outside. The hamper on arrival is a thoughtful touch and truly set the tone for our stay. It was filled with carefully chosen products and made us feel immediately welcomed and looked after. We chose to return to Dukes Townhouse to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. As before, the experience was wonderful. It has become our special place, and we will be returning annually. The Retreat at Dukes Townhouse delivers luxury, comfort, intimacy and convenience at exceptional value. A thoroughly enjoyable stay, highly recommended!
