Its fine.. if you like noise and drain smells

It was a good size... comfortable enough. But you could smell the drains quite badly throughout the entire apartment, something that looks like an ongoing problem. The smell was so bad in the kitchen that we closed the door and never used it for fear of it making us unwell. The noise from the street above was terrible so bring ear plugs

Disappointing stay

We stayed here for two nights and unfortunately the experience did not reflect the price we paid (£130 per night). On the first night, we were placed in a below-ground apartment where there was constant noise and light coming in from the cobbled street. We barely slept. The cleanliness was also below standard, with unpleasant drainage smells, poor water drainage in the bathroom, and visible issues such as cobwebs and unclean surfaces. After raising this, we were moved to another apartment for the second night. While we appreciated this, the issues didn’t fully resolve. There was no proper way to block out light — the bedroom had no door, so light from the kitchenette windows came straight into the sleeping area, waking us very early. My partner even tried sleeping in the living room, but the skylight meant constant light still came through. Although the second apartment was slightly better, it still did not feel properly cleaned or well maintained, and overall the property feels like it needs attention and upkeep. To their credit, they did offer a partial refund as a goodwill gesture after we raised our concerns, which we appreciated. However, this didn’t change the fact that the overall experience and standard of accommodation did not match what we expected for the price. This stay was particularly important to us as it was meant to be our last trip away before our baby arrives, and it also became our engagement. It’s disappointing that the accommodation did not match expectations for what should have been a special occasion. We’re not ones to complain unnecessarily, but we do feel the price does not reflect the standard provided. With some improvements to cleanliness, maintenance, and basic comfort (particularly light control), this could be a much better experience.

Disappointing overnight stay.

Beautifully presented accommodation in a great location which was totally spoiled by a few points. Firstly, the awful smell of drains which had been unsuccessfully camouflaged by several air fresheners throughout the apartment. Secondly, due to the fact that the basement bedroom is directly under the street, the only hope to a good nights sleep is by using ear plugs to block out the constant noise from above and a sleep mask to block out the continuous bright light coming through the glass bricks in the ceiling. Thirdly , the small terrace was nothing like the pictures, it was very damp, dirty and hadn’t even been swept. We would never return and cannot recommend staying here as there are far nicer (and cheaper) places to stay in beautiful York.
