Shabby not chic

I cannot fault this property in terms of location, a short walk from the city centre but also in a very quiet location. However, this property is need of an upgrade. The room I stayed in had significant damp issues visible on the walls, some of which has been circled in pencil. The appliances in the kitchen also need updated, we used the oven once and it took nearly an hour to get to temperature, and the dishwasher didn’t release the tablet. Also, whoever cleaned the house before our arrival did a poor job. There were piles of dirt behind doors & left in the downstairs bathroom, the dining table was sticky & no matter how many times we cleaned it, the stickiness remained.

Nice location, but the property is tired

3 Buckingham Street is a little tired, and in need of some TLC. There's black mould in the bathroom (which is the coldest room in the house). I think the bathroom (which is at the back of the house, in a single story extension off the kitchen) should have underfloor heating, or more insulation, or a larger towel rail, as it's the coldest, wettest room in the house and price to condensation and mould. There are plenty of other examples of area where this property is in need of redecoration. Skirting boards we having off the wall. Damp patches were found in the hall and lounge. the property had plenty of cobwebs and dust as we moved in.

We enjoyed a fantastic stay. Everything was as described in the listing. I had a couple of questions in the lead up to our stay which were always responded to promptly. We had no issues during our stay but I definitely felt we would be looked after quickly and easily if we had. It was even closer to all the city attractions than we realised. A lovely, quiet location. Easily walkable to everywhere. Comfy beds, nicely laid out rooms, lots of thought gone into the details of the property. There was also lots of games, books etc. plenty for all ages! Thank you! We will definitely return!

Loved this house and our stay. We brought our dogs and were able to arrange to drop off our luggage. The house was a 10-15 minute walk from the train station, and only about 5 minutes across the river to the heart of York. It was a wonderfully central base for all of the main attractions. We spent some time around the corner at the local pub, Cock & Bottle, and even caught the weekly pub quiz! Tank & Paddle had a nice brunch. The river was flooding, and we got a great up close view, but the house was far enough away that we weren’t worried about our feet getting wet walking out the door! Overall we had an amazing time this weekend and would definitely stay here again.

Very nice place located a stones throw from both the Train Station and the city centre. Location is perfect - private and calm outside the most noisy parts of the city, but not more than 5 minutes by foot in to the centre. Location here is what you pay for. If you are enough people to share the cost this is really good. The house is very cozy with classic english narrow stairs and kinda cramped together, but warm and as cozy as can be. Good size bedrooms all of them with nice beds, fresh linens, and clean towels available. Great welcome gift basket and some nice discounts are included with some establishments. Would recommend and would stay again! Thank you!

Excellent location (15 minute walk to most attractions)

Easy to find & ample parking, the house was comfortable for the 3 of us but would be a squeeze for 6.

The location is brilliant, an easy and beautiful walk to all of the things we’d planned each day. The house was comfortable and well-appointed, we enjoyed ourselves and would absolutely stay again.

Perfect location; imperfect accommodation

The house is in a row of charming early Victorian workers' cottages about five minutes walk from the centre of one of the most interesting and historic cities in the UK. It is tastefully and comfortably furnished. However, it is advertised as accommodating six people. It doesn't, especially if they are not one family or all adults. The rooms are small: one had only a large single bed and another, with a small double, required some dexterity to navigate. The sitting room/area had only five easy chairs and, for example, there were only four wine glasses and four tumblers. The worst thing though was the bathroom facilities. There was an adequate bathroom through the kitchen on the ground floor but that was a route-march from the top floor bedroom and difficult in the dark. There was also a recently installed shower room on the first floor, which was very cramped but would have gone some way to solving the problem if the lavatory had been a proper one and not of the macerating variety carrying a large notice telling us only to use it for urine. We were five adults and the poor toilet availability led to some embarrassment. One last thing: the cleanliness was superficially acceptable but, as our week progressed, we found bits of food between the cushions of the sofas, other people's detritus in the corner of a bedroom and food hard-baked on to the oven trays. In covid times, these omissions are hardly admissible.

It’s an excellent location with comfortable beds and plenty of the comforts of home. We really did enjoy our stay immensely and would recommend the property to anyone looking for a place to stay. It’s close enough to walk to the train station and the Shambles Market.

Reasonably Comfortable cottage in convenient location but it does have a few issues. It’s a house for 6 but there is comfortable seating for only 5 people. Only enough Cutlery for 5 people. Upstairs toilet allows only limited use.

I very much enjoyed my stay. The location is very (very) convenient for the town centre - 5 mins walk. 10 mins from the brilliant local shops on Bishopthorpe Road. Cosy place and nice outside space. Netflix and Xbox nice touches.

This house is ideally situated for exploring York by foot. Resident parking was very useful and there were plenty of places available on the street. It's a nice quirky property that is probably getting to the stage of needing a little bit of TLC and a really good clean. It was very hot when we stayed there but parts of the house remained quite cool, which was a relief. There is a climb to the top bedroom but the addition of a "pit-stop" shower room does help as I can imagine it was quite a trek from the attic to the back bathroom before this was installed. Even though there is a pub around the corner, which did give some late night entertainment, it is generally really quiet. York is amazing, it's the busiest place we have visited since March but it still felt safe and the people were very respectful of all the current safety guidance. We managed to visit a couple of tourist sites which had recently opened including the Minster which is a must. All in all a really good week with the only slight let-down being the cleanliness of the property and confusion over how to dispose of your rubbish.

The house is clean in good location in the city centre but is still quite, it is a small house but owner provides every thing that you need with out been cluttered. This house is good for a weekend but for along stay it is alittle bit tight as it has only 1 bathroom which is located on the ground floor

Stayed here for a week with our dog. Lovely property with everything we needed and some nice Christmas touches as it was December! Wooden and stone floors easy to keep clean with the dog. Comfortable lounge and excellent bedrooms. So convenient for the shops, bars and restaurants and the river just over the road. Would recommend to anyone with or without a dog!
