A Rainy Day in York – Stuck on what to do?

13th September 2019

In true British style, our summer here in England is coming to an end and the rain is here, therefore we want to let you know what you can do in York when the weather here isn’t great!

Museums

York has a whole host of museums you can get lost in, and they are some of best and most interesting places to visit in York and are mostly indoors! Find yourself exploring royal train carriages of the past at The National Railway Museum (FREE ENTRY!) Or learn about the history of York itself in the Castle Museum or the Yorvik Centre. There is something for everyone!

Afternoon tea experiences

Betty’s, as a world-famous Yorkshire Bakery, Café and Tearoom provide the most traditional afternoon tea experience in York, which they have been doing since 1920 (must be good then!). Therefore, your trip to York would certainly not be worthwhile until you take a visit to one of the two Betty’s Tea Rooms in the City.

Another traditional afternoon tea experience here in York is located within the National Railway Museum on board an original Victorian Carriage. Surround yourself with the lavish furniture and décor, sit back and take in the Train’s British History.

Escape rooms

Do you think you can beat the clock? Immerse yourself across many of York’s themed escape rooms, including a Viking themed escape room! This is an activity for everyone – Families, couples, Individuals of all ages. Students, NHS workers and The Armed Forces even get 30% off at ‘Can you escape?’ on Miklegate, even more reason to take a visit during your stay.

Spa days

When the weather is dull, a Spa day is just the trip to cheer you up!

York Is home to a verity of luxurious Hotel’s & Spa’s. Middlethorpe Hall and The Grand Hotel are at the top of the list here amongst the Stay’s office. Why not treat yourself to a collection of Spa Treatments, beauty sessions within a tranquil setting on one of York’s many rainy days!

York Cookery School

The York Cookery School located within The Grand Hotel in York’s City centre is a great way to keep your taste buds entertained on a dreary day. From £55 per person you can improve your cooking skills from a very basic or expert level, create classic British dishes right here in the heart of York!

A trip to the Theatre

The Grand Opera House and York Theatre Royal are the two Theatres within York who provide live performances including famous West End musicals, Ballet, Opera and even Comedians! Both Theatres are inhabited by vast amounts of British history, as they’ve been in the City for over 200 years. Go check out their websites to discover what is on during your stay.

…And of course, after a long day uncovering all that York has to offer in the rain, going back to one of Stay’s Apartments is the best part!
